The artist
Twenty years facing the wind
After the Rouen School of Fine Arts, I painted interiors for a long time. When I came back to live in Honfleur, the estuary took hold of me: its skies that change every hour, its trees that the west wind ends up sculpting.
I mostly work in black and grey, in charcoal, ink and printmaking. Colour only comes in when the landscape calls for it: a sunset, a lichen, a lit window.
“A twisted tree tells of the wind better than a whole sky.”
